Remove the 'My Computer' icon from the desktop

1.    Create an invisible icon:

Create a Bitmap image (.bmp) that is the same colour as your screen background. Rename the image so that the file extension is .ico (instead of .bmp) e.g. blankimage.bmp to blankimage.ico

Right-click the desktop and select Properties. Click on the Effects tab. Select the My Computer icon and then click on Change Icon => Browse. Choose the file you created and press Open => Apply => OK

2.    Remove the name:

You need to change the name from ' My Computer'  to nothing, but Windows won't except a blank space as a full filename. Right click on the icon and select Rename, hold down the Alt and type 0160 on the numeric keypad.
